National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated from September 15th to October 15th. Originally a week-long observation under President Lyndon Johnson, President Ronald Reagan expanded it to last a month starting with September 15th-18th being the independence days for many Latin American countries. For the past two years, the Columbia County School District has been delighted to offer breakfast and lunch to all children at no cost. This was made possible thanks to the generous support of the USDA reimbursing schools for meals served to students, regardless of household income. However, this funding will no longer be available next school year.
